Instructions

This free Companion App for 1863 Marsala Express is optional and alternative to the use of Automa cards in the game. It assists players in following Automa instructions by drawing cards, breaking down instructions in smaller steps and eliminating/ discarding / reshuffling cards as required.

The app is hosted on the Gotha Games website. No account or login is required. It is optimised for smartphones held vertically, but also works on a PC.

Note: this is a draft version. The final version of the app will be released before fulfillment.

1. Play on a PC — no download required

1. Open your web browser.
2. Go to https://gothagames.co.uk/1863-automa/
3. Click Start a new game.
4. Choose your difficulty and confirm.
5. Follow the instructions on screen.

There is nothing to download or install: the app runs directly in your browser from the Gotha Games website.

To resume later, return to the same address using the same browser and click Continue last game.

2. Play on Android

You can play directly in your browser or install the app on your Home screen.

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Go to https://gothagames.co.uk/1863-automa/
3. To install it, tap Chrome’s ⋮ menu.
4. Select Install app or Add to Home screen, then follow the confirmation prompts.
5. Open the app using its new icon.
6. Hold your phone vertically for the best layout.

No Google Play download is required.

3. Play on iPhone or iPad — iOS/iPadOS

You can play directly in Safari or add the app to your Home screen.

1. Open Safari.
2. Go to https://gothagames.co.uk/1863-automa/
3. Tap Share — the square with an upward arrow.
4. Select Add to Home Screen.
5. If Open as Web App is shown, switch it on.
6. Tap Add, then open the app using its new icon.
7. On iPhone, hold your phone vertically for the best layout.

No App Store download is required.

First use and testing

• Open the app online and wait until Ready offline appears at the bottom. It can then be used without an internet connection.
• Start a game and draw a card. Tap the enlarged card to continue to its instructions.
• Scroll inside the instruction panel; the card information and navigation buttons remain in place.
• Use Undo to correct an action.
• Music and sound effects can be switched off separately in Settings.

Your progress is saved automatically on the device and browser you use. Saves do not automatically transfer between devices or between the browser and an installed app. Use Settings → Export / Import to transfer a saved game.
